Freida Pinto and Dev Patel, who took the world by storm with the 2008 film, "Slumdog Millionare," have remained friends even after their split.

The 30-year-old actress and the "Newsroom" actor split in December last year after six years of being together.

Freida Pinto told USA Today, "Everybody has their own little discoveries to make. Their own surprises, their own disappointments, and they're all part and parcel of life."

"There is no way one person can sit down and go, 'But why did this happen to me?' Or, 'It was all going well, what the hell happened?' Or, 'No, this just can't be,' the denial of it," Freida Pinto pondered on her relationship with Dev Patel.

"Running away from it is not going to help you find your answers. So we're facing it. And we're dealing and Dev and I are best friends. That's never going to change."

Both Freida Pinto and Dev Patel were thrust into the spotlight with the success of "Slumdog Millionaire."

The synopsis for "Slumdog Millionaire" reads, "A Mumbai teen who grew up in the slums, becomes a contestant on the Indian version of 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?' He is arrested under suspicion of cheating, and while being interrogated, events from his life history are shown which explain why he knows the answers."

The movie, with a budget of only $15 million, raked in $377,910,544 in the worldwide box-office.

Although Freida Pinto seems to be rarely seen in films these days, the actress said that she's just choosing her projects more carefully.

"To the outside eyes, it may seem that I've stopped working or that I have not been part of successful films. But I want to be part of these great indie stories," Freida Pinto said.

Dev Patel's ex-girflriend will next be seen in "Desert Dancer," which chronicles the story of Afshin Ghaffarian, a choreographer who started an underground dance troupe in Iran amid the religious ban in 2009 during the Iranian polls.
