Charlize Theron Not Hysterical Over Going Bald For 'Mad Max: Fury Road;' Actress Hits Cannes Red Carpet With Boyfriend Sean Penn In Tow

Charlize Theron revealed that she didn't even need alcohol when she decided to go bald for "Mad Max: Fury Road." Meanwhile, the former model and her boyfriend Sean Penn hit the Cannes Film Festival red carpet.

In an interview for her next film "The Project," Charlize Theron said, "No, there were no Chardonnays involved."

"I just didn't understand how I was going to play a woman with a ponytail hiding with a bunch of guys."

In an earlier interview with The Independent, Sean Penn's girlfriend Charlize Theron said that she and "Mad Max: Fury Road" director George Miller were going back and forth for her looks.

"Finally I called George and said, 'I need to buzz my head,'" she said. "Then of course everybody hated me because it set the tone for the film - so about a thousand guys and girls had to shave their heads and the guys were worse about it than the girls."

For her role as Imperator Furiosa, Charlize Theron said, "I wanted to look like I had tremendous upper-body strength because there was so much physicality in the movie, especially with someone like Tom Hardy."

"And I just hate that idea of scrawny little girls fighting men off and then winning so I did a lot of upper-body yoga to get my shoulders and neck strong. I look like a football player in this movie."

Meanwhile, "Mad Max: Fury Road" actress Charlize Theron was all glam in the arms of boyfriend Sean Penn during the red carpet even for the Cannes Film Festival.

The 5'9" model wore high heels and towered over her 5'8" boyfriend.

"The strapless number showed off the South African actress's toned body, with the fabric skimming her curves before flowing out into a dramatic train," Daily Mail noted. "Keeping all the attention on the dress, Charlize accesorised with just diamond earrings, and swept her blonde locks up into a chic chignon."
