Cate Blanchett Denies She Is Bisexual; Official Statement Released!

Cate Blanchett cleared up the news that she has revealed having romantic relationships with women.

"From memory, the conversation ran: 'Have you had relationships with women?'" she said to the press. "And I said: 'Yes, many times. Do you mean have I had sexual relationships with women? Then the answer is no.' But that obviously didn't make it."

"But in 2015, the point should be: who cares?" the actress added. "Call me old fashioned but I thought one's job as an actor was not to present one's boring, small, microscopic universe but to make a psychological connection to another character's experiences."

"My own life is of no interest to anyone else," she continued. "Or maybe it is. But I certainly have no interest in putting my own thoughts and opinions out there."

It was earlier reported that the actress admitted to having romantic relationships with women in an interview that came out in Variety.

According to the article, the actress was asked if this was her first time as a lesbian, and she had answered,  "On film - or in real life?" When the interviewer asked her to elaborate on whether she has had relationships with the same sex, she responded, "Yes. Many times."

The 46-year-old actress is currently starring in "Carol," which is based on a novel titled "The Price of Salt" by Patricia Highsmith that came out in 1952. The Todd Haynes-directed drama which is set in the 1950s, follows a young woman in her 20s who falls in love with an older married woman.

The movie took 15 years to be made, and its premiere happened in the Cannes Film Festival on May 17. Rooney Mara co-stars with Blanchett in the movie.

To prepare for her role,  the actress researched on that era in the United States by reading banned erotic novels. "I read a lot of girl-on-girl books from the period," she revealed.
