Demi Lovato Talks About Having Bipolar Disorder; 'Neon Lights’ Singer Realizes She Does Not Want To Be Miserable Anymore

"Neon Lights" singer Demi Lovato recently opened up about her bipolar disorder as she said she does not want to be miserable anymore.

The 24-year-old singer and Wilmer Valderrama's girlfriend recently graced a mental health awareness campaign entitled "Be Vocal: Speak Up for mental Health" where she revealed that she also dealt with the illness in her teenage years.

"I had heard people joking about bipolar," the "Really Don't Care" singer told Refinery29. "As if it's that one minute you're sad, one minute you're happy. I was worried about the diagnosis at first; I didn't want anyone to think badly of me."

Demi Lovato, who said that she felt the "alternating waves of depression and elation," was diagnosed with her bipolar disorder in 2011.

The "Really Don't Care" singer also said that her friends started talking to her about her behavior when they saw that she was exhibiting something strange in her character.

The singer and actress said, "They were sensing that I needed help and they came to me, and I... trust the people around me."

This has also served as her wake-up call that she did not want to live a life of misery.

"I don't want to be miserable anymore. I deserve to have a better life than this," Demi Lovato told the Huffington Post.

Recently, Demi Lovato expressed her love for her on and off boyfriend of five years Wilmer Valderrama as she revealed that he has been by her side during her down times.

The "Give Your Heart a Break" singer said that Wilmer Valderrama supported her in her struggle when she was about to return to rehab due to her drug and alcohol addiction.

Aside from bipolar disorder, "Neon Lights" singer Demi Lovato was known to have been struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. She is also known to have been battling with bulimia and anorexia.
