The split between "The Bachelor" couples Chris Soules and Whitney Bischoff caught their friends and acquaintances by surprise. Even "Dancing with the Stars" host Erin Andrews-who had front row seat to their romance-was shocked by the announcement.

In an interview with E! News, she said, "I had no idea because I follow it just like everybody else does on Twitter."

"I think [Whitney] posted for the six-month anniversary of the proposal so this was a shock to me," she added. "I'm a geek on Twitter and I was like, 'breaking news you guys!' She was around our studio a lot on Mondays and Tuesdays so I had no idea this was coming."

"The Bachelor" runner-up Becca Tilley was also caught off guard by the announcement of Chris Soules and Whitney Bischoff's split because she wanted a happy ending for the couple.

"I think coming out of that bubble it's a struggle no matter the situation," she told People. "I don't think you can ever expect it because you want it to work out."

"When it's all said and done, she was my friend and he's such a good guy. I wanted it to be a happy ending, but I think they're both sort of bummed," she added.

The split report was confirmed by the rep for the "The Bachelor" couple who issued a statement that read, "Whitney Bischoff and Chris Soules have mutually and amicably decided to end their engagement. They part with nothing but respect and admiration for one another and will continue to be supportive friends. They wish to thank everyone who has supported them through this journey."

Chris Soules also took to Twitter to give credit to those who sympathize with their situation in the aftermath of his split from Whitney Bischoff.

He wrote, "I can't thank you all enough for the kind messages over the past few days. This has been really tough and your support means a lot to me."
