Another big star has joined the "Empire" season 2 cast. In a report on The Hollywood Reporter, it was confirmed that Oscar-winning actress Marisa Tomei has been added to the list.

Fox officially welcomed Tomei into the "Empire" season 2 cast through a tweet on Thursday.

"Welcome to #Empire, @marisatomei!!!" the post said.

Tomei will star in the show as billionaire Mimi Whiteman. She is described as a "demanding venture capitalist."

The Oscar-winning actress character also reportedly loves hip-hop music, social trends, beautiful women and high-end fashion as reported by TV Line.

Mail Online said Tomei's character in the "Empire" season 2 cast might seemingly be a giveaway of Whiteman's sexual orientation as a lesbian.

Tomei's character on the series will purportedly also bring more trouble and drama into the Lyon dynasty.

According to Deadline, joining the "Empire" season 2 cast was another "rare TV series gig" for the Oscar-winning actress. Aside from appearing in the show "Rescue Me" before, she is also working on a TV project for HBO.

Aside from Tomei, other new cast members were announced. These include Chris Rock, Alicia Keys, Lenny Kravitz, and Adam Rodriguez, as cited by Entertainment Weekly.

On Wednesday, Chris Rock even tweeted a picture of him on the set of the show.

"On the set of empire. You guessed it I'm playing a doctor," he wrote.

It was reported earlier that the cast were expected to go back to their roots in the upcoming season.

"I think we've seen the opulence," "Empire" co-creator and actor Danny Strong said back in March.

"But now we have to go back to where they come from," he added.

He also told The Hollywood Repoter that the "poorer-class African-American experience" will be weaved into the plot of the new season.

The "Empire" season 2 cast will return on the small screen on Sept. 23.
