'The Vampire Diaries' Cast Not Closing Doors On Nina Dobrev's Return; Ian Somerhalder Clarifies 'She's Having A Nap'

Nina Dobrev quitting "The Vampire Diaries" might not be absolute as the writers and even ex Ian Somerhalder have not fully closed their doors on her possible return to Mystic Falls.

First, instead of killing Elena right off the bat, the writes opted to put her under a spell for a deep sleep.

Second, Ian Somerhalder has been talking about Nina Dobrev's possible return to "The Vampire Diraies."

In an earlier interview, Ian Somerhalder told Melty that Elena Gilbert will be returning to Mystic Falls at some point.

After all, Elena didn't really die. Instead, she's laying on the coffin in the Salvatore mansion in deep sleep for the next 60 years as a result of a spell.

"The way it was done was great. The way it was done was actually incredible, because it allows people to know that she's still there... she's not dead," Nikki Reed's husband said. "In seventy years or however long Bonnie lives, Elena will resurface at some point, although we'll be very old when that happens."

During the Comic-Con, Nikki Reed's husband gave fans more hope about Nina Dobrev's "The Vampire Diaries" return during an interview with MTV News.

"She's still there, dude. She's in a casket. She's having a nap," he said.

Candice Accola added, "I think that's what's fun about this series. You never know when characters are going to leave, you never know when they're going to come back. That's been a constant for six seasons, now. So the fact that, for such a big departure, that it is left open-ended, is really true to the show."

Michael Malarkey explained, "The the way it's been done, she's very much a presence in season seven."

But what does Elena's absence mean for Damon? Ian Somerhalder promised, "It's the old f-king Damon... sexy, volatile, fun, dangerous. All that sh-t you guys fell in love with, I'm bringing it back."
