'Splinter Cell' Movie Release Date Might Be Delayed Because Of Script Revision; Tom Hardy Still Headlining Adaptation

The script for "Splinter Cell" the movie is going through another script revision, which may affect the potential release date of the said film.

According to Deadline, Ubisoft Motion Pictures and New Regency have tasked actor/ screenwriter Frank John Hughes to pen the next draft of the movie's script. Hughes, who previously starred in TV's "The Sopranos," "24," and "Band of Brothers," most recently adapted the Adam Sternbergh novel 'Shovel Ready' for Warner Bros.

Previous drafts for "Splinter Cell" were penned by Eric Warren Singer (The International, American Hustle) and Sheldon Turner (The Longest Yard, Up In The Air, X-Men: First Class). It is still unknown which of the three writers' scripts will make it into production.

Meanwhile, "The Dark Knight Rises" actor Tom Hardy is still set to play the movie's protagonist. The 37 year-old actor will portray Sam Fisher, an expertly trained special operative who's also a member of a fictional black-ops division called "Echelon." Fisher and other Echelon agents "utilize combat skills, weapons and cutting-edge gadgets to neutralize international terrorist threats and rogue forces in modern, realistic stories ripped from the headlines." 

Apart from "Splinter Cell", fellow Ubisoft title "Assassin's Creed," is also getting a big screen adaptation from "Macbeth" director Justin Kurzel.

It will star "X-Men: Days of Future Past" actor Michael Fassbender in the lead role. Co-starring are Marion Cotillard (Inception), Michael K. Williams (Boardwalk Empire), and French actress Ariane Labed (Fidelio: Alice's Journey).

"Assassin's Creed" follows the story of Desmond Miles, an ordinary bartender who who is a descendant of prominent assassin's from the Knights of the Templar era. Desmond is captured and forced to go back in time to alter history.

Additionally, video game titles such as "Metal Gear Solid," "Angry Birds" "Hitman: Agent 47," and "Five Nights at Freddy's" are all set to hit the big screen with release dates expected soon.
