'Jurassic Park 4' Director Not Steven Spielberg, Universal Picks Newcomer Colin Trevorrow!

"Jurassic Park 4" director is not Steven Spielberg.

Universal Pictures announced the long-awaited director of the billion-dollar franchise as Colin Trevorrow on Thursday. However Spielberg is to serve as executive producer.

Trevorrow, 36, is to direct the fourth installment from the Michael Crichton novel that has been way overdue, as it's been nearly 12 years since "Jurassic Park III" was released.

Universal said "Jurassic Park 4" will be in 3D and due in theaters on June 13, 2014. The script has been penned by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. Produced by Spielberg's longtime collaborator Frank Marshall, along with "Bourne" series producer Patrick Crowley.

Spielberg spilled the beans in 2011 announcing that a fourth film was in development along with mass speculation of whether he will return to direct it.

"Jurassic Park III" directed by Joe Johnson in 2001, only brought in $368 million worldwide box-office as the lowest compared to the first two installments by Spielberg "The Lost World: Jurassic Park's" $619 million and original's $915 million.

The indie director is a newcomer in Hollywood who directed "Safety Not Guaranteed" shown at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and earned its writer, Derek Connolly, the festival's Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award.

The sequel marks the first mega-budget film for a major studio, although Spielberg's original "Jurassic Park" released in 1993, will return in 3D conversion on April 5.

Universal did not disclose any details of casting or the plot of "Jurassic Park 4."
