Honda Recall of 250,000 Vehicles Globally For Brake Problem

Honda announced their recall of nearly 250,000 vehicles globally including sedans, minivans and SUVs due to brake problems on Thursday.

The vehicles are recalled for a malfunction in the stability assist system and the brake could operate even when the driver is not pressing the pedal, said spokeswoman Tomoko Takemori.

She added the vehicle may brake strongly than intended when the system malfunctions.

There have been no crashes or injuries related to this issue have been reported, Takemori said.

The U.S. is recalling 101,000 Pilot made in 2005; 60,000 Acura MDX and 21,000 Acura RL from 2005; and approximately 800 Acura MDX from year 2006.

A recall is also issued for around 57,000 vehicles in Japan and also from Canada, Mexico, Germany, Australia and New Zealand.

The models affected include Odyssey, Acura RL sedan, Acura MDX and the Honda Pilot SUV, all made between 2004 and 2005.

Honda and Acura dealers will install a new electrical sub-harness free of charge.

Also from the recalled Pilot vehicles, approximately 51,000 will be inspected to check if electrical ground bolt for the stability assist system is properly tightened. If necessary the bolt simply needs to be tighten, Honda said.

The owners of the recalled vehicles will be notified by Honda in mid-April. The company declined to say how much this recall will cost or where it got the problematic parts.
