QB Steve Davis Dies In Plane Crash; Star University Of Oklahoma Quarterback Killed When Plane Crashed Into Three Indiana Homes

Former University of Oklahoma QB Steve Davis, 60, died in a plane crash on Sunday, March 17.

On Sunday, the plane's pilot radioed saying they were having electrical problems. The plane landed on a runway at the South Bend Regional Airport in Indiana. It then went back up into the air and crashed into three South Bend homes.

Police Captain Philip Trent told The Chicago Tribune, "It hit or grazed one house and then hit another one squarely and then embedded itself into a third house."

There were four people on the plane. Quarterback Steve Davis and Wesley Caves were both killed. The other two passengers on the plane, along with a woman injured in one of the houses, were all taken to Memorial hospital.

Steve Davis started every game at the University of Oklahoma from 1973 to 1975, only losing one game. He finished his college career with a 32-1-1 record.

Davis led his team to win two national championships in 1974 and again in 1975. The head coach for the University of Oklahoma at the time was Barry Switzer.

After learning of the former quarterback's death, Switzer went on Twitter and posted, "I'm saddened by the loss of Steve Davis. Great role model for young people on & off the field. He was my 1st QB & had an outstanding career."

In 2008, Davis released a book "The Die-Hard Fan's Guide to Sooner Football." In it he talks about his career with the Sooners.

"I will never get away from the fact that I was an Oklahoma quarterback. I will never get away from the fact that I only lost one game."

The investigation as to what caused the crash that killed Davis and Caves is still ongoing.
