$22 Minimum Wage 'Are You Telling Me That's Unsustainable?' [VIDEO]

Massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren says the minimum wage should be $22 an hour.

Warren says the math backs her up.

At the recent Education, Labor and Pensions Committee hearing, she addressed the room saying, "If we started in 1960, and we said [that] as productivity goes up ... then the minimum wage was going to go up the same ... if that were the case, the minimum wage today would be about $22 an hour."

Currently the federal minimum wage is $7.25 an hour. Although some states have moved up from that number, it is still much lower than Warren says it should be.

In a recently posted YouTube video, the senator further discusses the topic of minimum wage.

"What happened to the other $14.75?" she asked. "It sure didn't go to the worker."

Warren challenges her opponents who argue against a minimum wage increase saying they are just using bad math. She contends that raising minimum wage a few dollars an hour is completely plausible now.

"During my Senate campaign, I [frequently] ate a Number 11 at McDonald's. It cost $7.19," she said. "If we raised the minimum wage to $10.10 over three years, the price increase on that item would be to about $7.23. Are you telling me that's unsustainable?"

The minimum wage issue has been thrown around in Congress a lot recently. Many Democrats have been talking about an increase, although it is much lower that Warren's proposed $22 minimum wage. A minimum wage of $10 an hour was proposed by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, and the idea is gaining momentum in the party.
