Gay Marriage: Hillary Clinton Supports, Michelle Shocked Rants [VIDEO]

The gay marriage debate was all over the news on Monday as former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton expressed her support and singer Michelle Shocked went on an anti-gay rant about the issue.

The Human Rights Council released a six-minute long video of the former First Lady expressing her views in favor of gay marriage on Monday. In it, Clinton said gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans "are full and equal citizens and deserve the rights of citizenship."

She continued with, "That includes marriage," she said. "That's why I support marriage for lesbian and gay couples. I support it personally and as a matter of policy and law."

Hillary Clinton's support for gay marriage has set the wheels in motion for her 2016 bid for the presidency. It is an issue that will have a major affect on the next election and many pundits have concluded this is her way of getting a head start on the competition.

Gay marriage will undoubtedly be a big issues among voters in 2016. As of right now 72 percent of Democrats, 62 percent of independents and 34 percent of Republicans support same-sex marriage, according to a recent ABC-Post poll. And those numbers are up significantly from an average of 47 percent of all Americans in three years ago.

On the other hand, across the Internet there has been a huge backlash in the wake of singer Michelle Shocked's anti-gay rant at a performance in San Francisco Sunday night.

The alt-folk singer and former Lilith Fair regular is now a born-again Christian and, much to the surprise of many of her fans, now adamantly anti-gay.

She said during her performance on Sunday at Yoshi's, "I live in fear that the world will be destroyed if gays are allowed to marry."

Many fans have turned to Twitter to express their disappointment and rage over Michelle Shocked's comments. And the retaliation did not stop there.

Shocked, who is currently on tour across America has seen her concert load dwindle as a result of her anti-gay musings.

A website has even popped up to track the show cancellations. According to them, Michelle Shocked has now lost bookings in Novato and Winters, California, Seattle, Washington, Evanston, Illinois and Boulder, Colorado - with many more on the way.

Looks like Monday was a victory day for gay marriage supporters!
