Dr Oz Sued By New Jersey Man Who Suffered 3rd Degree Burns After Taking Oz’s Advice

76-year-old Frank Dietl is suing Dr Oz after he suffered burns on his feet while trying a home remedy the doctor suggested in a 2012 episode of his talk show.

Dietl was sleeping with heated rice filled socks on his feet. Dr Oz suggested the home remedy as a cure for insomnia.

The home remedy was highlighted in an April 2012 episode of the "Doctor Oz Show." The doctor suggested that wearing a pair of warmed up socks filled with uncooked rice might help you sleep at night.

Dietl is a diabetic and suffers from neuropathy. He says he was not aware that his feet were burning because he is losing feeling in them due to his disease.

Neuropathy is a disease of the peripheral nervous system and is typically found in patients with diabetes. Half the number of Americans suffering from diabetes also suffer from neuropathy.

The damaged nerves caused by neuropathy can cause severe pain as well as numbness in the hands and feet.

Medical News Today says, "Neuropathy can affect nerves that control muscle movement (motor nerves) and those that detect sensations such as coldness or pain (sensory nerves). In some cases - autonomic neuropathy - it can affect internal organs, such as the heart, blood vessels, bladder, or intestines."

Dietl is suing Dr Oz because he did not warn patients with neuropathy about the danger the insomnia remedy could pose to them.

He told the New York Post, "What upset me was that Oz should have had a disclaimer for people with neuropathy."

A spokesman for "The Doctor Oz Show" Tim Sullivan, told the Post he had not seen the complaint but said "We stand by the content in our program as safe and educational for our viewers."
