Parents Forgive Neighbor For Their Son's Death [VIDEO]

A Virginia couple said on Tuesday that they forgive the man who killed their son.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Shawn and Jennea Gordley said they forgive their neighbor for shooting their son, Caleb.

The teenager died on Sunday when he was shot and killed by the neighbor two doors down. The parents say it was all a misunderstanding that unfortunately ended in tragedy.

According to the parents, Caleb snuck out of the house on Saturday night to go to a party where he became intoxicated. When he came home early Sunday morning he got disoriented and climbed through the neighbor's window mistaking it for his own home.

The neighbor, a volunteer firefighter, called in a home intrusion to 911 then, thinking he was an intruder, shot the teen.

The boy's parents said on Tuesday that they believe the shooting was accidental.

"I don't even blame the gentleman," Jennea Gordley said. "I don't know what I would have done."

The parents also reported that Caleb had been grounded Saturday night so he snuck out of the house to go to a party with some friends.

The teenager tried to sneak back into the house around 2:30 a.m. On Sunday morning, but as the neighbor's house bares a striking resemblance to his own, undoubtedly climbed in the wrong one. Most of the single-family homes on the street look similar.

Police have no reason to believe Caleb was in the neighbor's home to commit a crime, but said that merely being there was a crime in it of itself.

No charges have been filed, but the case is still being investigated.

Shawn Gordley said that at first, he was angry about the accident. He had a lot of questions that needed answering. "But the more I looked for answers, the more it hurt," he said. "All the answers in the world are not going to bring him back."
