Ballerinas Pimped Out At Russian Ballet Company: Former Dancer From Moscows's Bolshoi Theater Claims Wealthy Donors Get Sexual Favors

Ballerinas are getting pimped out in Moscow's world famous Bolshoi theater ballet company, a former dancer claims.

Former ballet star Anastasia Volochkova told a Russian talk show on Sunday that the ballet company pimped out its ballerinas to wealthy donors.

"Girls are invited each in turn by the administrator, who explains that they are going to a party, with dinner and a follow-up, in bed and going all the way," the ex-ballerina said on NTV's March 17 program, according to Bloomberg.

According to the former ballerina, the financial backers were often powerful businessmen and political figures.

"With certain oligarchs, some of them are members of the board of trustees (of the Bolshoi) or just the person organizing the party."

The ballerina claimed refusing to be pimped out would have career consequences for the Moscow ballet dancers.

She says the pimping at parties for wealthy donors continues today.

Volochkova told the Russian talk show hosts Tina Kandelaki and Margarita Simonian that the ballerinas getting pimped out has gotten "a lot worse" since the company fired her a decade ago for getting too fat.

Bolshoi ballet's general director, Anatoly Iksanov, dismissed the idea that his company pimped out their ballerinas as "nonsense and dirt," on Tuesday.

The Russian ballet company has been reeling recently in the wake of an attack artistic director, Sergei Filin on January 17, exactly two month's before the former dancer's allegations that ballerinas are being pimped out.

Two weeks ago, police arrested a man accused of hurling a jar of sulfuric acid in Filin's eyes and his accomplices.

They also arrested Bolshoi dancer Pavel Dmitrichenko, who confessed to orchestrating the attack, according to the New York Times.

"I organized the attack, but not to the extent that it occurred," Dmitrichenko said.

A police spokesman told Interfax news service that Mr. Dmitrichenko was motivated by his "enmity" toward Filin "based on his professional actions."
