Nude Beach Shut Down in Wisconsin on Weekdays Only To Reduce Sex, Drug Use

A popular nude beach will shut down on weekdays in Wisconsin according to authorities on Tuesday.

The public beach on the Wisconsin River near Mazomanie located about 25 miles northwest of Madison has become a hot spot for lewd sexual acts and illegal drug use around the beach area.

The state's Department of Natural Resources decided it will shut down the sand, islands and nearby forest on weekdays. As it was discovered most of the illegal and illicit activities occurred during the week.

The supervisor of the Department of Natural Resources revealed that from the 92 citations issued since 2008, 83 of them were written on weekdays. The issues of improper conduct have been long been noted, given the tens of thousands of visitors to the area every year.

"Obviously we're disappointed when we have to shut any portion of our property down," Nate Kroeplin, Department of Natural Resources law enforcement supervisor said. "But our ultimate goal is to have a safe place anybody can feel comfortable using. And with the current activity going on down there, that's just not the case."

However, the executive director of Naturist Action Committee, Bob Morton criticized the Department of Natural Resources for not consulting or communicating with beachgoers before deciding to close the area.

"Honestly, we're on their side when it comes to enforcing things that are lewd and lascivious," Morton told the Associated Press. "There's something to be said about consulting the users of the place. There's got to be more to this somewhere."
