Crash Kills 6, Injures 9 After Police Chase Undocumented Immigrants at Navy Base in Texas [VIDEO]

A crash killed six people and nine others in a fatal crash Wednesday night at a Navy base in Texas.

The crash occurred when a 1996 GMC Sierra pickup entered the base and crashed into a security barrier, Texas Department of Public Safety officials said.

"There were 10 people in crew cab and five in the back," said John Gagne, spokesman for Naval Air Station Kingsville.

A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement told CNN that the crash victims were immigrants from Guatemala and Honduras.

"When the truck passed the guard at a high speed, he then alerted the guard at the second checkpoint to deploy the protective barriers to prevent the truck from accessing the base," Gagne told WPTV. "The truck plowed right into it."

The base gate guard "stepped out to observe the vehicle coming in and greeted the vehicle as he normally would, but the vehicle did not stop," Gagne added.

"That's exactly what the barrier is designed to prevent," Gagne said, referring to the driver's behavior. "It's quite possible this guy didn't even know where he was."

The 6 people killed all died instantly, authorities said, and nine people were taken to local hospitals, with some suffering critical injuries.

CNN reported that no members of law enforcement or the military were injured in the crash.

The names of the victims who were killed in the crash were not yet released to the public on Thursday.
