Boo Politely: NY Town Approves Booing At Board Meeting, Reversing Earlier Ban, 'It's Stupid'

A New York town board lifted a booing ban in their meetings that was implemented just few weeks earlier.

Newsday reported that the board members voted 4-1 in favor on Tuesday to allow one to boo at the meetings, however it has to be done politely.

At the same time board on Long Island voted to keep another part of its code, prohibiting disruptive behavior and demonstrations.

The board did not elaborate on how to boo without being disruptive during the meetings.

"I won't let one town resident disrupt another one," Sean Walter the supervisor said. "There are regulations similar to this one in towns across the state."

"It's stupid," Councilman Jim Wooten told Newsday. He voted against the board's new rules and regulations, and he was the only official to vote against the original provision on March 5.

Wooten explained about the reason why he did not vote in favor of the measure to CBS New York, earlier this month.

"Because I don't really need somebody or a policy telling me how I should behave in public," he said.

"That wasn't really addressed in the legislation. They'll probably just be told not to do that. It's against the code," he added.
