Rudy Giuliani The New Spokesperson For Lifelock: The Ex-NYC Mayor Works For A Company In Controversy

Ex-NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani has become the new spokesperson for LifeLock.

LifeLock is an American identity theft protection company based that offers LifeLock identity theft protection system - intended to detect fraudulent applications for various credit and non-credit related services.

LifeLock CEO Todd Davis announced in November that the company had partnered with "America's Mayor" and with Giuliani's firm, Giuliani Partners, in order to promote better public awareness of the threat posed by ID thieves, ABC News reported.

Tami Nealy, LifeLock'senior director of corporate communications said in an e-mail to ABC News that Giuliani "has a strong track record of fighting crime, which is why we are working with him."

Nealy also said that LifeLock has been the No. one consumer complaint reported to the Federal Trade Commission for the past 12 years.

Giuliani served eight years at Mayor of New York City and was in office during the 9/11 attacks. His leadership after the attacks helped him to receive Time's Person Of The Year for 2001.

Historian Vincent J. Cannato told the Washington Post, "With time, Giuliani's legacy will be based on more than just 9/11. He left a city immeasurably better off- safer, more prosperous, more confident- than the one he had inherited eight years earlier, even with the smoldering ruins of the World Trade Center at its heart. Debates about his accomplishments will continue, but the significance of his mayoralty is hard to deny."

LifeLock has had to deal with some controversy over the past few years. One in particular was in 2010, when the Federal Trade Commission fined LifeLock for making what the Commission called "false claims," ABC News reported. In a statement pursuant to the $12 million settlement, the Federal Trade Commission then Chairman wrote, "While LifeLock promised consumers complete protection against all types of identity theft, in truth, the protection it actually provided left enough holes that you could drive a truck through it."
