First Pitch of Texas Rangers Season Opener To Be Thrown Out By Sandy Hook Elementary Victim's Father: Six-Year-Old Girl And 25 Others Will Be Honored By The MLB All Season

A Sandy Hook Elementary victim's father is announced to throw out the first pitch for the Texas Rangers' home opener in Arlington, Texas on April 5.

The father of the six-year-old girl who was shot and killed in the massacre at Newtown Conn., Robbie Parker is a longtime Ranger Fan. The Associated Press (AP) reported that Parker grew up in North Texas and used to take his daughter Emilie to some of the games in Arlington.

"I am so proud to be a Ranger fan, because I know that as a fan I actually belong to a community," Parker said in a statement read by his brother, Jeremie Parker, on ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM in January. "I am glad I was able to share the community with my precious daughter and that the same community has reached out to her and let our family know that she is remembered and loved. Thank you for all you have done to support our family through this time. Go Rangers!"

The sold out game Parker will throw the first pitch is one of many efforts from MLB to honor the 26 total students and teachers that died in December, the AP reported.

The Texas Rangers were a playoff team last season, but were eliminating in the one-game playoff matchup to the Baltimore Orioles. Before that, the Rangers made consecutive World Series in 2010 and 2011.
