Friends Split Lottery: Three Buddies Honor Long-time Pact To Split Winnings, Shares $1 Million Powerball Win

Three close friends split lottery winnings of $1 million, honoring a verbal agreement that they would split the pot if anyone of them wins the lottery, according to officials of the Georgia Lottery.

Not knowing when they will ever hit the jackpot, the payday and the fulfillment of the agreement came last week when one of them hit the $1 million consolation from the Powerball.

Not to be forgotten, but the friends’ fortune was seemingly foretold through a famously baked (or fried) goodie after dinner.

James Scole, 56, of North Pole, Alaska, was cracking a fortune cookie on March 15. The same day, one of his friends Kenneth Wilson purchased a lottery ticket at a grocery in Twiggs County, GA.

The white paper in Scole’s fortune cookie says, “You’re going to win the lottery,” according to the story which he shared with lottery officials.

The prophecy, of course, though seemingly intertwined and not coincidental is yet to be confirmed by NBC News, who reported the story on the friends splittings lottery winnings.

The following day, March 16, Wilson was shocked and could not believe his eyes when his number: 3-7-21-44-53 won something. It was not the Powerball number but the combination still managed to earn a million dollars.

Wilson will be splitting it three ways with Scoles and Sanford Watson, a cousin of his who also lives in Georgia. Wilson told NBC news, “I was just as tickled for them as I was for myself. We just had a verbal agreement and I felt like that had to be honored.”

The good news, however, caused a little stress for Wilson’s wife, Dorothy. ““It was a lot of sleepless nights. I never would have thought winning money would have been that stressful.”

It is, however, a type of stress many Americans would definitely opt to have instead of not having a job or enough money to pay bills.

At a press conference, Scoles said that he will spending his share on a “Georgia honey baked ham, and a smoked turkey, and some good barbecue sauce.” Wilson, who is retired and the original purchaser of the winning lottery ticket says that his only plan now is to pay off some bills.
