Brown Student Missing Search Widens, FBI Joins Investigation

The search for the missing Brown University student continues as it was announced FBI joins the investigation in Providence, Rhode Island.

The search now expands outside Providence to Boston, Connecticut, New York and Philadelphia. Sunil Tripathi, 22 was last seen Saturday morning, March 16 on the east side of campus.

Brown spokeswoman Darlene Trew Crist says in a statement Saturday that Providence and Brown police departments are leading the missing person investigation.

Tripathi, a philosophy major at Brown grew up in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, had been living in Providence since 2008. He was on approved leave from the Ivy League school.
The last six days of the search focused on the greater providence area which involved distributing flyers, searching various neighborhoods and soliciting or information through social media sites. Even created a Facebook page, "Help Us Find Sunil Tripathi, " where more than 50,000 people have visited. The Twitter account "@findingsunny" is also available to share information.

According to his family, Tripathi was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black Easter Mountain Sports ski jacket, glasses and a Philadelphia Eagles wool hat. He is six feet tall and weighs 130 pounds.

"Our concerns are first and foremost with Sunil and his family," said Margaret Klawunn, vice president for student life and campus services. "We are hopeful that by encouraging the Brown community to help spread the word that Sunil will be located."
