Brown University Student Missing, Family And School Reaching Out For Help

Sunil Tripathi a former Brown University student has been missing for over a week. Tripathi was last seen in his apartment around 11am on March 16.

Tripathi's girlfriend called the police and reported him missing the following day. The missing Brown student's family has asked homeless shelters and hotels in the Boston area to keep a look out and notify the authorities if they see Tripathi.

Tripathi is 22-years-old and a former student at Brown University. He was a philosophy major but took a leave of absence after three years at Brown.

When police searched his room they found Tripathi's credit card, I.D and other personal items in the room. The only things missing were his glasses and Philadelphia Eagles wool cap.

The missing student's older sister Sangeeta Tripathi spoke with the Boston Globe about her brother. Like many college students Sunil Tripathi was struggling and in need of a new direction in life.

"He's been struggling a little bit, really wanting to get his life back in order and wanting to stay with his Providence friends. He was working on re-enrolling but wasn't quite there yet," Sangeeta Tripathi told the Boston Globe.

The Providence police are running the investigation into the missing brown student; the FBI is assisting them. Special Agent Greg Comcowich told the Boston Globe the FBI would be assisting but did not elaborate as to what specific role the bureau will play.

Brown University is also doing what they can to help find the missing student. They have encouraged people to use social media in an effort to find Tripathi. They have started a Facebook page called "Help Us Find Sunil Tripathi."

The page has 1,715 likes so far and people have been sharing the missing poster for Tripathi on their own personal Facebook pages.

Brown University issued a statement saying, "Our concerns are first an foremost with Sunil and his family. We are hopeful that by encouraging the Brown Community to help spread the word that Sunil will be located."

Police are investigating the case of the missing Brown student. Police Detective Mark Sacco told the Boston Globe they have had no leads in finding Tripathi.

"Not a one. We're just kind of checking wooded areas, parks, those certain areas," Sacco said.

The police have not offered a theory as to why or how Tripathi disappeared.
