GM Of Tampa Bay Lightning Fired Head Coach

Guy Boucher was fired as head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday. His termination came one day after the Tampa Bay Lightning suffered a 5-3 loss against Ottawa.

Lightning General Manager Steve Yzerman released a statement saying, "Guy has poured his heart and soul into the Lightning organization for these past three years and we appreciate all the work he has done," he added, "Ultimately I am not satisfied with the direction we are heading and I believe making a change today is in the best interest of our franchise."

GM Yzerman hired Boucher in 2010. Boucher had only 1-year experience as a professional coach but not with the NHL. That same year the Tampa Bay Lighting made it all the way to the Eastern Conference finals.

This year the Lightning had hopes of going all the way. They are currently in next to last place with a record of 13-17-1.

Fans of the Tampa Bay Lightning went on the team's Facebook page to share their opinions about the fired coach.

"What an asset we just lost," writes Amanda Mason.

Steve Juntikka posted, "If you can't win with all that talent, it's time to go. Good call Steve [Yzerman.]"

"The coach is not the issue, the issue is that the goalie can't keep the puck out of his own net to save his life," says Alex Snider.

Fan Jessica Hooks commented, "Guy is a good coach and I really liked him but we are a Stanley Cup team and Steve [Yzerman] knows how to make it happen so I support his decision."

The Top 5 teams in the NHL Eastern Conference Division are, in first place the Pittsburgh Penguins. The New Jersey Devils and the New York Rangers take second and third place. The New York Islanders are in fourth place. The Philadelphia Flyers are in fifth place.

Yzerman says assistant coaches Martian Raymond and Dan Lacroix will share coaching responsibilities during Tampa Bay's game against Winnipeg Sunday night.
