Denny Hamlin Hospitalized After Crash With Joey Logano In NASCAR Race at Fontana [VIDEO]

Denny Hamlin was injured and hospitalized Sunday night following a violent crash with Joey Logano on the final lap of the Sprint Cup race Sunday at the Auto Club 400 in Fontana, California.

Hamlin and Logano during the final lap in a tight race battling for first place as Logano's car slid up the track into Hamlin, and then brushed against each other causing both to spin out.

Hamlin took a hard hit after losing control of his car slamming head-first into the raceway wall, where there is no SAFER barrier. After climbing out of the wrecked car, he collapsed to the ground.

The FedEx driver was taken to the hospital near the track by a helicopter to avert the post-race traffic.

Hamlin was admitted and would stay overnight for observation according to an announcement by Joe Gibbs Racing late Sunday. His girlfriend tweeted, "He's alert n awake, main concern is his back."

"Hamlin complained of lower back pain at the track's infield medical center and was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation," a JGR statement said. "Hamlin will remain at the hospital overnight for observation."

"It's time he learns a lesson," driver Tony Stewart said about Logano. "He's nothing but a little rich kid that's never had to work in his life." After the race, Stewart confronted 22-year-old and actually got into a shoving match.

Following the crash Logano seemed unapologetic as he states, "He probably shouldn't have done what he did last week, so that's what he gets."

The two have fought all season long, as Hamlin spun Logano out at the Bristol Motor Speedway that caused another post-race fight.
