Nine-Year-Old Girl Walks A Mile After Car Crashed 200 Feet Off Sierra Highway, Killing Her Father Who May Have Been Under The Influence Of Alcohol [VIDEO]
A nine-year-old girl crawled out of a car that veered off the Sierra Hwy in Acton, Cali. The SUV crashed 200 feet killing the driver, who was her father. She survived and reportedly walked a mile in the dark for help in Southern California, authorities told the Huffington Post.
The 2010 Ford Escape reportedly launched about 200 feet down an embankment along a semi-rural stretch of the Sierra Highway in Acton at about 1 a.m. Sunday, California Highway Patrol Officer Cheyenne Quesada told the Post.
The SUV reportedly flipped a few times, killing the father. The nine-year-old girl survived with only cuts and bruises, but was kept overnight to Children's Hospital Los Angeles.
She hiked up the steep embankment and along the road, finding a nearby home, which nobody answered. She eventually found a commuter rail station where she flagged down a passing motorist at about 2:30 a.m., authorities said.
"She walked quite a distance in a very, very threatening environment. It's very black out there, very dark," CHP Sgt. Tom Lackey told KABC-TV. "It's very steep and it's brushy and there are also coyotes in the background."
Neither the name of the nine-year-old or the father has been released.
The Post reported that the nine-year-old girl's sister said she was close to her father, who investigators are looking into if the father was drunk or not.
