Kings And Galaxy Meet The President As Obama Honors The NHL And MLS Champions: Do Any Other Major Sports Share Their Visit With The President?

President Obama honored the Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings and L.A. Galaxy Tuesday at the White House.

The two L.A. franchises won its respective championships for the NHL and MLS 2012 seasons.

The NFL, MLB and NBA champions don't have to share their time with another champion when they get the trip to the Washington, D.C.

Two sports that aren't as popular in the United States as football, baseball and basketball have to share their day with Obama. Kings' Captain Dustin Brown doesn't mind and looks forward to the day with the president.

"I'll keep it pretty simple," Brown told the Los Angeles Times. "I'll just go there and enjoy it. Hopefully it won't be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. But you've got to treat it like that."

Champions of all the major U.S. sports get a chance to meet with whoever the president is at the time after the team hoist the trophy of their respective sport.

Kings Coach Darryl Sutter, born and raised in Alberta, said this month that he would like to ask Obama about the Keystone XL oil pipeline project, of which he is in favor. The proposed pipeline, which would run from Alberta to the Gulf Coast, has been a controversial flash point on both sides of the border, according to the Times.

Last year was the first Stanley Cup for the Kings' franchise that started in 1967.

The Galaxy won its second consecutive MLS title last season, which featured stars like American Landon Donovan and Englishman David Beckham. This marked the Galaxy's fourth championship.

Beckham will lead the way alongside Con Smythe Trophy winner as the most valuable player during the NHL playoffs Jonathan Quick, as the duo and other teammates exercise on the front lawn of the White House.

Eight Boston youths from the America SCORES program will join them on Obama's front lawn, as they try out some exercises, boston.com reported Monday.
