Beer Run Leads To Alcohol And $338 Million: New Jersey Liquor Store Holds The Winning Powerball Ticket

Two beers went a long way for the New Jersey man who happened to buy a Powerball ticket. He won $338 million on Saturday.

"I can't believe it. I'm overwhelmed. I just can't get over it. I was praying so much for this. I'm just giving thanks to God," Pedro Quezad, the Powerball jackpot winner told the New York Post Tuesday.

The 44-year-old father of five did what millions of other people tried to do, by having that winning ticket that changes your life forever. Now, he's a millionaire.

"For the last three years, he would come here every day between 7:30 and 8 p.m. to buy Lotto tickets and two or three bottles of [Corona] beer," said Felix Ramirez, an employee at Eagle Liquors, where Quezad bought the beers and ticket.

The $338 million beer run was a surprise to Quezada when he went back to the liquor store. He didn't know he won. When he checked the board, the New York Post reported that he became very emotional.

"Upon listening to his voice he did sound happy, kind of like a relief like he wouldn't have to work as hard and nice to hear that for someone," Isaiah DeVries the manager of Love's Travel Stops & Country Store in Bordentown, N.J. said."

Quezad is a frequent visitor of the liquor store at the truck stop that frequent passers off the New Jersey Turnpike stop at.

Last year, the Powerball ticket went from $1 to $2, which according to Multi-State Lottery Association President Jim Haynes bumped the winnings dramatically.

"We redesigned the game and with more money going into the game, the jackpot prize pool has doubled so more people are playing because the jackpot is growing higher," Hayes said. "For $2, its inexpensive entertainment and you can buy a part of the dream."
