Judge Judy's son Adam Levy, a district attorney in Putnam County, New York, is being accused of meddling in a rape case involving a child.

Levy is accused of interfering with the ongoing investigation of Alexandru Hossu who was arrested last week as the main suspect in a 2010 rape of a 12-year-old girl.

Hossu is said to be the personal trainer of Judge Judy's son who also reportedly lived with Levy recently.

The accusations of interference come from the local sheriff, Donald Smith. "He is apparently trying to influence and affect the investigation, which could be perceived as an ethical violation of his official duties and perhaps even as an attempt to undermine it," Smith said.

Levy says, however, that he has removed himself from the investigation despite what investigators are saying otherwise. Judge Judy's son also said the sheriff is making "unfounded allegations and misstatements." He also claims he and his office have acted appropriately and within their boundaries since Hossu was first being sought for the rape.

There is a history of feuding between the two men, criticisms and insult-slinging for a long time. Levy insinuates that the accusations are the result of bad blood that stems from a recent criticism he made about the sheriff's office.

Furthermore, Smith said Hossu is a Romanian citizen living in the US illegally, his work visa is said to have expired roughly 12 years ago. He has requested a federal investigation to find out if anyone illegally "harbored, shielded, aided or abetted" Hossu before or after the alleged rape. Without expressly saying it, Smith was hinting at possible illegal activity from Judge Judy's son.

Judge Judy's rep spoke on her behalf about the matter on Tuesday saying, "The sole focus of this story should be the investigation as to whether a young girl was the victim of a very serious crime," not on her son's involvement.
