Robin Roberts: ESPN To Honor Anchor At The ESPY With The Arthur Ashe Courage Award

Robin Roberts is to receive the ESPY award honed by ESPEN. It was announced today "Good Morning America" co-anchor will receive the Arthur Ashe Courage Award on July 17.

It's not surprise that Roberts in being honored as an inspiration of overcoming life-threatening illnesses twice. The award is to recognize the strength and courage she has shown through her life and career.

Roberts was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007 and last year underwent a bone marrow transplant to treat a rare blood disorder. Last month she returned back to "Good Morning America."

The 52-year-old returned back to co-anchor the show on February 20, in just five months after the operation.

"My humble thanks to @ESPN for naming me recipient of the Arthur Ashe Courage Award. He was a true friend and mentor. An amazing honor," Roberts tweeted. "Overwhelmed by your compassion/well wishes. Being named recipient of #ArthurAsheAward is surreal. We're ALL a lil stronger than we think. XO."

"Robin brings an amazing amount of energy, compassion and determination to everything she does," said ESPN president John Skipper. "Those qualities made her an incredible asset during her time here at ESPN, and they have served her well as she battled the terrible health challenges that she's had to face."

"Robin's accomplishments in so many areas - as an athlete, a broadcaster, a cancer survivor and more - demonstrate her ability to shine regardless of adversity and we could not be more proud to honor her as the recipient of this year's Arthur Ashe Courage Award," he added.
