Live Bomb Found In Dead Squid

A fisherman from China was gutting a squid for a customer when he found an unexploded bomb in the squid stomach.

The fisherman was identified by the Chinese newspaper the Guangzhou Daily as Mr. Huang. Mr. Huang has been fishing for 10-years and found the bomb squid in shallow waters off the Guangdong Province.

As Mr. Huang was gutting the squid he ran his knife down the mollusk's sternum when he hit something metallic. Mr. Huang immediately realized it was a bomb in the squid and called the police.

The bomb weighed 3 pounds and was found in the stomach of a 3-feet-long squid.

The authorities came and took the bomb out of the squid and took it away in order to perform a controlled explosion. The authorities said the bomb was old and rusted but fully operational. They did not say if the bomb in the squid was of Chinese origin or not. They did speculate that the bomb was probably dropped from a war plane.

The most likely explanation for how the bomb ended up in the squid is it probably washed into the sea creature's feeding ground and was mistakenly believed to be food and swallowed.

Mr. Huang told the Guangzhou Daily, "This sort of squid lives close to the shore and normally makes a meal of small fish and prawns. Perhaps he thought the bomb was his favorite food and gulped it down. He certainly had a big belly when he was caught."

At the end of their report the Guangzhou Daily reminded its readers to call the police whenever they find explosives in their food. Makes you wonder if this is a common occurrence. Although no other reports of a bomb being found in someone's food (by accident) has been reported.
