Robert Griffin III Says His Goal Is To Return By Week Of The NFL Season: Can RG III Recover Ahead Of Schedule?

Robert Griffin III said he plans to be ready for week one of the 2013 NFL season.

"My knee is getting better every day. The doctors say I'm ahead of schedule. My goal is to return healthy in Week 1 but if I'm not ready then I will wait until I am, however long that is," RG III said in a text that was revealed on ESPN Wednesday. "My first NFL season and my injury that ended it showed me a lot about the league, my team and myself."

Griffin tore his ACL and TCL during a playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The Washington Redskins' quarterback went down during the game when his team had the lead.

There was controversy over whether the Redskins' coaching staff took proper measures in letting Griffin play in the first place or letting him stay out there at first after the initial injury.

"I know where my responsibility is within the dilemma that led to me having surgery to repair my knee and all parties involved know their responsibilities as well," Griffin's statement read. "I'm looking forward to playing the game we all love so much again and not behind at the negative. Thanks for the overwhelming level of support that I've received, sic em (Baylor) Bears and hail to the Redskins!!"

Last week, world-renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews said RG III was "superhuman" and compared him to Adrian Peterson. Peterson won this year's Most Valuable Player award after tearing his ACL and MCL in 2011.

Peterson's recovery shocked everyone and his performances following the surgery received even more praise for what Andrews called a "superhuman" like recovery.

"RG III is one those superhumans,"Andrews told ESPN. "The first patient I ever had like that was Bo Jackson. And recently I, of course, had Adrian Peterson, who is also superhuman. They have an unbelievable ability to recover, whereas a normal human being may not be able to recover."
