Jim Carrey vs. Fox News: Cold Dead Hand Video Sparks Controversy

Jim Carrey released a video on Funny or Die, which ignited a battle of words between the comedic actor and Fox News.

In Jim Carrey's video he dresses like a cowboy and sings a country style song about gun control. In the video Carrey mocks late actor and former NRA president Charlton Heston.

Fox News host of "The Five" Greg Gutfield went on a rant about Jim Carrey after the "Cold Dead Hand" video was released on Funny or Die.

"He is probably the most pathetic tool on the face of the Earth and I hope his career is dead, and he ends up sleeping in a car the way his life began," Gutfield said. "This video only made me want to go out and only buy a gun. He thinks this is biting satire and going after rural America and a dead man."

Fox News's Greg Gutfield was referring to the chorus of the song in which Carrey says, "The angels wouldn't take him up to heaven like he planned/Because they couldn't pry that gun from his cold, dead hand."

Carrey was referring to a comment Charlton Heston made in 2000 during the presidential election. The comment "from my cold dead hands" was directed at Al Gore, as a way of saying second amendment supporters would not give up their guns.

After Jim Carrey heard about Gutfield's rant on Fox News the war of words escalated between them. Carrey released a statement criticizing what he called "Fux News."

"Since I released my "Cold Dead Hand" video on Funny or Die this week, I have watched Fux News rant, rave, bare its fangs and viciously slander me because of my stand against large magazines and assault rifles. I would take them to task legally if I felt they were worth my time or that anyone with a brain in their head could actually fall for such irresponsible buffoonery. That would gain them far too much attention which is all they really care about."

Carrey added, "I'll just say this: in my opinion Fux News is a last resort for kinda-sorta-almost-journalists whose options have been severely limited by their extreme and intolerant views; a media colostomy bag that has begun to burst at the seams and should be emptied before it becomes a public health issue."

The Jim Carrey vs. Fox News battle has been seen as a perfect symbol of the nation gun debate. Ever since the tragic events at the Sandy Hook elementary school the nation has been divided as to whether or not we are in need of stricter gun control laws.

People on the side of Jim Carrey believe that large capacity magazines have no place in the hands of non-military gun owners.

Those on the other side of the argument say that gun laws get in the way of those who would purchase a gun for non-criminal activity. They argue that anyone looking to buy a gun in order to commit a crime is going to do so under the radar, therefore harsher gun laws will not put a stop to violent crimes.

The Jim Carrey vs. Fox News battle has gone beyond the gun control issue. Carrey has threatened to sue Fox News. He then said he wouldn't because he didn't want to give the network any attention. It may be too late for that last part.

Gutfield fired back daring Carrey to come on Fox News to defend his "Cold Dead Hands" video. Gutfield also attacked Carrey for going after a dead man since a dead man cannot fight back.

The Jim Carrey vs. Fox News debate is likely far from over. And it looks like Carrey's turn to make the next move.
