Another Texas DA Killed In His Home Along With His Wife

On Saturday night Texas District Attorney (DA) Mike McLelland and his wife Cynthia were shot and killed in their home.

Authorities believe there may be a connection between Saturday night's shooting and the January killing of Mark Hasse another Texas DA. Hasse was shot numerous times in the parking lot of a Texas courthouse.

Hasse and McLelland were colleagues. After learning of his friend's death McLelland vowed to prosecute the "scum" who killed DA Hasse. According to the New York Times McLelland made the following statement at a press conference,

"I hope that the people who did this are watching, because we're very confidant that we're going to find you. We're going to pull you out of whatever hole you're in. We're going to bring you back and let the people of Kaufman County prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law."

Texas DA Mike McLelland was 63-years old and his wife Cynthia was 65-years-old. The couple had 5 children one of whom is a police officer in Dallas, Texas.

According to CNN Kaufman County Judge Bruce Wood believes there is a "strong connection" between the murders of DA McLelland and DA Hasse. According to Judge Wood and CNN, the two DA's "worked on similar cases very closely."

CNN also interviewed the Mayor of Kaufman County, William Fortner. Mayor Fortner also believes it is possible the two murders are connected.

Mayor Fortner told CNN, "That's the logical conclusion, and I don't have any information that directs me to think that's the case, but that's what you would assume under the circumstances, since they targeted two people from our prosecutors."

The Sheriff's office in Kaufman County has not officially stated they believe the deaths of the two Texas DA's are related.
