Harry Styles may be going solo and breaking from the popular boy band One Direction.

According to recent news reports, 19-year-old Harry Styles, the ex-boyfriend of U.S. pop sensation Taylor Swift, has written several songs of his own, and has even been recording some solo songs without his band mates.

The Mirror reported that Harry has recorded some early versions of his solo music efforts at the Paramount recording studio in Hollywood.

The rumors began when the Mirror allegedly spoke with one of Harry Styles' friends, who said, "He loves messing around with some of the new songs he's been working on."

The source continued, "He's bounced some ideas off his friend Ed Sheeran and has already laid down some vocals."

"Harry's priority is obviously still with 1D. But when he decides the time to go solo has arrived, he's likely to have a project raring to go."

A spokesperson for One Direction denied the rumors and told MailOnline, "Harry is not recording solo material. All of the band are working on tracks for their third album. Harry is putting together some ideas for the record. The boys sometimes work up ideas separately as well as working together, as they did last year. Niall for example recently collaborated with Tom and Dougie from McFly on their new tracks."

A One Direction representative also spoke to E! News to shoot down the rumors; the rep said that there is "no truth" to the Harry Styles solo album reports.

The representative stated, "The boys are all working on the new 1D album together and sometimes sessions are recorded separately."

Harry Styles returned to the UK from a L.A. vacation on Friday. He and his other band mates are currently in the middle of the One Direction 'Take Me Home Tour,' which began in February and is scheduled to end in October 2013.
