Detroit Airport Reopened After Bomb Scare Forced Evacuation

Detroit Metropolitan Airport was evacuated early this morning after a bomb scare. Reports say a "suspicious object" was discovered in an x-ray machine at a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoint around 5:50am.

The Detroit airport was evacuated as a precaution while police and bomb squads checked the suspicious object. There are no reports on what the object was, but reports have said police detained an unnamed suspect.

The Detroit Airport was evacuated a little after 6am and was reopened at 8:20am. There have been no reported injuries. The TSA says the evacuation was a "precautionary measure."

CBS Detroit reported from the Airport as it was being evacuated. Witnesses told CBS Detroit, "They are not letting anyone onboard any flights and the flights are departing without any passengers."

Another witness added, "All the gates are closed; the TSA is closed, and they are stating it's because they found a restricted item."

Passengers were seen leaving the airport and heading to other terminals. The airport is reportedly trying to do its best to accommodate passengers who missed flights and get them to their destinations as soon as possible.
