Duct Tape Prom Dress & Suit For Couple To Receive Scholarship, Help Pay College Tuition [VIDEO]

A couple in a South Carolina high school was dressed in duct tape prom outfit to help pay for their college tuition.

Senior Amber Squires prom date Kody Britt completed a matching ensemble made of duct tape to their Thursday night's Green Sea Flody High School prom in part of a scholarship contest.

The winners of Stuck at Prom contest sponsored by Duck Brand duct tape awards $5,000 each to the best ensemble, that factors in workmanship, originality, accessories and use of color.

Squires remembered the contest, three years later while out shopping for prom dresses.

"I thought 'Senior year, I'll remember that forever and it'll be like no other,'" she told ABC News.

After she decided to enter the contest, she checked with her cousin, Britt to make sure he was ok with the idea, after some initial hesitation, he agreed.

"I'm a big cheetah fan," said Squires, who chose cheetah, blue and black tape. "I didn't really think about all of the colors of duct tape they had.

"I had arms full of duct tape and everyone was looking at me like I was crazy. He had to stand there like a mannequin," she said.

Squires and Britt spent many hours trying to put everything together. As duct tape would stick together or get crinkled to have to start the section over again. After completing the outfits and trying them on, it wasn't as comfortable as imagined.

"It was very uncomfortable. It was hot, it was like a sauna suit. But it was fun; I believe it was worth it," said Britt, a junior at Aynor high school.

"All of my classmates were really surprised and all the teachers were really proud. I love fasion and I love creating stuff but medical field is where I'm likely going," she said.
