New Book Says Freddie Mercury Dressed Princess Diana In Drag For A Night Out

Freddie Mercury dressed Princess Diana as a man in order for the pair to enjoy an anonymous night out at a gay bar in southern London. That is the claim comedian Cleo Rocos makes in her new book "The Power of Positive Drinking."

At some point during the late 1980's Freddie Mercury, along with Rocos and TV star Kenny Everett dressed Princess Diana in an army jacket, a black hat, and sunglasses in order to make the princess appear as a young man.

The group then headed to a gay bar called the Royal Vauxhall Tavern. Freddie Mercury, Rocos and Everett were not all that pleased with their disguise for Princess Diana. They all assumed she would be discovered right away, but that was not the case.

An excerpt from the book reads, "When we walked in we felt she was obviously Princess Diana and would be discovered at any minute. But people just seemed to blank her. [Princess Diana] sort of disappeared. But she loved it."

Rocos says the Royal Vauxhall was packed and the distraction of Freddie Mercury took the eyes off of Princess Diana. Nobody would have expected her to be there so nobody thought to look for her.

In her book Rocos says, "She did look like a beautiful young man. She was always a very fit girl, so they might have thought, 'There's a nice young man with pert buttocks."

Freddie Mercury is the late lead singer of the iconic rock band Queen. Famous songs from the band include "Bohemian Rhapsody," "We are the Champions" and "We Will Rock You." Freddie Mercury died from AIDS in 1991.

Princess Diana is the late mother of the British Princes William and Harry. Princess Diana and her former husband Prince Charles went through a very public and scandal ridden divorce in 1996. The people of the UK sided with Diana when she divorced the heir to the throne, Prince Charles.

Known as the "People's Princess" Diana was hounded by photographers at every opportunity. In 1997 Princess Diana was killed in a car accident in Paris while trying to get away from the paparazzi.
