MTV Announces 'Buckwild' Production Is Suspended Following The Death Of Show's Star Shain Gandee

MTV announced it is currently suspending production on "Buckwild," following the death of one the show's stars, Shain Gandee on Monday in Sissonville, W. Va.

Gandee, 21, was found dead inside a vehicle that authorities said was submerged in mud. Two others, one of which was Gandee's uncle, were found dead inside the truck also.

The network issued the following statement, which was reported by CBS: "We are shocked and saddened by the terrible news about Shain Gandee, and those involved in this tragic incident. We are waiting for more information but at this time, our main concern is for the Gandee family and their friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. Shain had a magnetic personality, with a passion for life that touched everyone he met and we will miss him dearly."

MTV previously announced in February that "Buckwild" was renewed for a second season, following a successful first season.

The show followed around nine friends and their care-free lives, which according to CBS, averaged three million viewers a week.

Gandee, his uncle and third unnamed deceased reportedly did not die to any foul play, according to authorities. It's a possibility that carbon monoxide caused their deaths.

West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin wanted MTV to cancel the reality series while the first season was being aired. He said the reputation of West Virginia was even worse than it already was after "Buckwild" aired. It "plays to ugly, inaccurate stereotypes about the people of West Virginia" Manchin said when addressing the show.

"You preyed on young people, coaxed them into displaying shameful behavior - and now you are profiting from it. That is just wrong," Manchin said in a letter to MTV before the show was renewed for a second season.

None of Gandee's cast-mates commented yet on the suspension of the show, but they expressed their remorse for the loss of a good friend.

"Buckwild" star Katie Saria tweeted, "Everything doesn't happen for a reason. I don't know why people say that." She added: "I'm so glad I've kept a diary this whole time so I have all of my buckwild memories forever."

Shae Bradley tweeted,"Breathe in. Breathe out. Repeat. Just going through the motions. Please pray for Shains close friends and family." She later wrote: "Going to go buy some cross word puzzles. That's what Shain always did to stay out of trouble and keep his mind off things."

Anna Davis tweeted, "My heart is broken," later adding: "Shain, you were an angel."
