John Mayer Admits Split With Katy Perry On Ellen DeGeneres Show, Remains Tight Lipped About What Went Wrong

John Mayer talked about his split with Katy Perry on the Ellen DeGeneres show, although throughout his relationship with the 'Fireworks' singer, he has been uncharacteristically quiet.

Mayer, since his split with Perry in March, has been slightly more outspoken about their relationship and breakup.

On the Ellen DeGeneres Show, John Mayer said, "It was a very private relationship going on. It was a private relationship during and it's a private relationship still."

DeGeneres commented that the last time she saw John Mayer was at the Grammy Awards, which he attended with Perry. "I know Katy. She is a good friend, and I know that since then, you're not together anymore. And I just want to say, I love you and my thoughts are with you. It's nobody's business," the host said.

Mayer thanked DeGeneres and didn't unveil what caused his breakup. "I can understand asking the question based on some previous answers I have given, but I have finally learned how to put the wall between one thing and the other. I've been much happier since then," Mayer said.

One thing that Mayer did reveal was that things were complicated between him and Perry. "I'm on the same journey as everyone else. Coupling is a tricky thing."

A friend of the couple told Us, "It's sad. It's not over until it's over. You have to see how things play out," hinting at a possible future reunion between the singers.

Before settling down with Katy Perry, Mayer was notoriously outspoken about the women he dated. He called Jessica Simpson 'sexual napalm,' and has been in very public relationships with Jennifer Aniston and Taylor Swift.

Katy Perry was previously married to British comedian Russell Brand.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show segment featuring John Mayer airs on April 2.
