ESPN aired footage Tuesday of Rutgers men's basketball coach Mike Rice abusing his players.

Mike Rice was suspended for three games in December and fined $50,000 after athletic department officials saw video footage of abuse, ESPN reported. Eric Murdock, a former director of player development whose contract was not renewed, brought the footage and abuse to light.

"To witness that video and see your coach physically putting his hands on players, physically kicking players, firing balls at players at point-blank range, the verbal abuse, the belittling. Yeah, I was in total shock that this guy wasn't fired," Murdock said on ESPN.

Murdock's contract was later not renewed and now he is suing Rutgers for what he alleges as being illegally terminated from the university.

"Mr. Murdock was terminated for having complained of and reported illegal conduct by Mike Rice," Gadhok told ESPN. "As a result, his employment was terminated by Rutgers University. That is unlawful in the state of New Jersey and Eric intends to pursue legal action for his wrongful termination, which the university and its representatives have been aware of for some time now. We have no further comment at this time."

Rutgers athletic director Tim Pernetti denied that explanation of why Murdock was relieved of his duties with Rutgers. Pernetti said Murdock disobeyed Rice after Rice told him not to attend a certain event.

The video showing abuse aired on ESPN's "Outside the Lines." When Pernetti watched the film, he suspended Rice for three games in December. He also fined him $50,000.

In addition to Rice's physical actions seen in the practices, Rice calls Rutgers players "fa--ots," "mother----ers," "pu--ies," "sissy b-tches," and "c----," among other epithets.

Players reportedly transferred from the university because they couldn't take the insults and abuse from Rice any longer.
