Kate Hudson Passes On Mother Goldie Hawn’s Advice To Young Girls At ANNpower Leadership Forum, Says “Take A Chance On Your Own Talent”

Kate Hudson talked about her experiences living in the shadow of her movie star mother Goldie Hawn to young girls seeking advice for their careers and lives.

Actress and producer Kate Hudson explained that she felt a lot of pressure following in her mother's footsteps, and she advised girls to believe in their talent and take risks as they pursue their career part.

Hudson said, "Take a chance on your own talent and your ambition because if you don't do that, there's no one else who will."

Kate Hudson addressed the girls at the ANNpower Leadership Forum, a weeklong program that brings together teens from across the country and female leaders in business, entertainment and nonprofits, according to the Associated Press.

Hudson, the spokeswoman for Ann Taylor, is a member of the advisory council that mentors teen girls and recommends grants for community projects that the girls create in their neighborhoods. Examples of past projects include a healthy eating program and a clothing collection drive.

Appearing alongside Kate Hudson were Ann Inc. CEO Kay Krill and Washington non-profit Vital Voices Global Partnership CEO Alyse Nelson. They all answered questions from the girls attending the conference about work-life balance, workplace solidarity and fashion.

But in addition to being an intimidating force in Kate Hudson's life, Goldie Hawn was a help to her daughter in blazing a path to success in the entertainment industry.

Hudson said that she's been taking her mother's advice since the day she started in Hollywood. "When I told her I wanted to go into acting, she just said, 'Ok, if this is what you want to do then you've got to start thinking straight,'" Hudson explained.

"I have been able to deal with the pressures of Hollywood thanks to those early lessons from my mom."

Goldie Hawn even gave Kate Hudson nutrition advice. "When I was younger my mom advised me not to start going on crash diets or become obsessed with my weight, and I have always stuck by that. I started eating properly at the age of 16, getting on a regime in which I'd get more energy. So I don't eat wheat or dairy. It's really simple...mom is full of great advice."

Another gem is simpler than you might think. Hudson said, "It was simple advice and seemed obvious" of her mother's demand that she look people in the eye when meeting them for the first time. "But I realized, in time, that so many people don't do that, particularly in Hollywood," Hudson added.

Kate Hudson will be starring in The Reluctant Fundamentalist, a film adapted from the book of the same name, to be released next week.
