WWE Lawsuit Ends With Owen Hart's Widow Martha Hart Settle An Almost Three-Year Lawsuit [VIDEO]

WWE and the widow of Owen Hart settled a lawsuit Wednesday that started almost three years ago.

Martha Hart sued the WWE over royalties and the use of her deceased husband's image after the wrestling company released a DVD called, "Hart & Soul: The Hart Family Anthology." The documentary featured the famed wrestling family, the Harts.

She alleged that the WWE didn't pay royalties for using Owen Hart's image in the DVD.

Owen Hart was the youngest child of legendary wrestler, promoter and trainer, Stu Hart and his wife Helen. He died during a WWE PPV, "Over the Edge" which was the second and final installment because Owen fell to his death during a special ring entrance in his Intercontinental title match with the Godfather.

Owen was playing the character, the Blue Blazer, which had a superhero-like feel, thus the grand entrance in 1999. He was set to be lowered to the ring by a harness and grapple line into the ring from the rafters inside the Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Mo.

It was scheduled to be a comedy act, as Owen would get tangled in the harness and fall flat on his face in the ring. He accidently triggered the release of the harness and he plummeted to his death and died from internal bleeding at 34-years-old.

The brother of WWE hall of famer Bret "Hitman" Hart, left the WWE controversially two years prior to Owen's death. He said in a documentary that he wished he was there because he would have talked his brother out of the stunt.

Martha Hart and the Hart family sued the WWE for a defective harness that lead to Owen's death. The Hart family won $18 million in the settlement of the lawsuit.

It was announced Wednesday by TWNPnews that WWE chief executive Vince McMahon and his wife and former CEO Linda McMahon had reached a settlement with Martha Hart. The details of the settlement were not disclosed, but both parties announced separately that a settlement was reached.
