Fort Knox Shooting: Army Civilian Employee Killed In Base’s Parking Lot, Death Investigated As “Personal Incident, Not Random Act Of Violence”

An army civilian employee was killed in a Fort Knox shooting in a parking lot that allegedly stemmed from a personal dispute on Wednesday, April 3.

Authorities continue to search for the person responsible for the Fort Knox shooting, which occurred outside the Human Resources Command headquarters at the Kentucky army base.

A 911 call was received by the Fort Knox police at 5:40 p.m., and they responded within minutes.

The victim was transported by ambulance to the Ireland Army Community Hospital on base, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The shooting prompted authorities to lock down Fort Knox for an hour.

The incident is being investigated by army Criminal Investigation Command. CID spokesman Chris Grey said, "Special Agents from the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command are investigating a personal incident and not a random act of violence.

Pentagon officials informed Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel about the shooting; Hagel was described as "deeply concerned" by a senior Defense Department official, according to CNN. Mary Trotman, a spokeswoman for Louisville's FBI, stated that two FBI agents have bee dispatched to Fort Knox to assist in the investigation, according to Fox News.

Authorities have not released the name of the deceased man; they are waiting for 24 hours after his family has been notified.

The victim was an employee at Fort Knox's Human Resources Command, which handles army personnel. Authorities haven't said whether or not the shooting was tied to the man's job.

ABC News reported that the person responsible might be using a black Yamaha motorcycle for transportation.

The large base is approximately 35 miles outside of Louisville and is home to 40,000 soldiers and their families.
