Frozen Pizza Recall By NY Firm Rich Products Corp. Expanded Due To E. Coli Concerns

The frozen pizza recall, which began March 28, from products made by Rich Products Corporation is being expanded due to concerns of E. Coli contamination. It has recalled various heat-treated, not fully cooked frozen mini meals and snack items to more than 10.5 million pounds, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety Inspection Services (FSIS) announced Thursday. The expanded recall includes all products produced at the company’s Waycross, GA plant, particularly those with “Best by” dates ranging from January 1, 2013 to September 29, 2014.

The initial slew of products that were subject to a recall, were from those with expiration dates of July 1, 2011 to March 29, 2013. These products have been distributed nationwide. FSIS and Rich Products Corporation are concerned that the items maybe in household freezers in the U.S.

FSIS was informed of a multistate investigation of E. Coli on March 19, 2013. The outbreak has already included 24 cases in 15 states, seven of which has led to hospitalizations, with one being a kidney failure.

An E. coli infection can result in dehydration, bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps for 2-8 days, 3-4 days on average.
