Russia 6.2 Quake: Country Experiences 6.2 Magnitude Earthquake Near North Korea And China Border

Russia’s 6.2 quake has a powerful magnitude and struck early Saturday, Russian time. The 6.2 magnitude earthquake was felt near the border with China and North Korea, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and as reported by the Associated Press.

The epicenter of the earthquake, which struck the country at 1300 GMT Friday, was at the southwest of Vladivostok. It is nine kilometers (five miles) from the Russian border town of Zarubino. The depth of the impact is 561 kilometers (350 miles), according to the USGS.

No immediate reports of casualties or damage from the quake were reported. It struck seconds immediately after 12 a.m. Saturday local time.

Last month, a 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck Russia’s far east and a 6.9 earthquake rocked the region in February. Neither events has caused the country any significant damage.

An underground formation known in the area as Kurii-Kamchatka arc is one of the most seismically-active regions in the world.

Seven powerful earthquake of magnitude 8.3 or more have occurred along the arc since the 1900s, as recorded by USGS.
