Vladimir Guerrero Signs With The Long Island Ducks Of The Atlantic League In Attempt To Get Back To The MLB

Vladimir Guerrero makes another attempt at getting back to the MLB when he signed a one-year deal with the Long Island Ducks Friday.

The Ducks are a member of the Atlantic League, which is an independent baseball league.

ESPN reported that the 38-year-old born in the Dominican Republic signed the one-year contract as an attempt to prove to MLB scouts that he still has it in him to perform on the grand stage.

Guerrero batted with a .318 career batting average during his 15-year career in the majors. He's 410 hits shy of the exclusive 3,000 hits club. He hit 449 home runs and batted in 1,496 runs during a career where he played for the Montreal Expos, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Texas Rangers and his final stop in 2011 with the Baltimore Orioles.

The former great right fielder signed with the Montreal Expos in 1993 as an amateur free agent.

Guerrero was the A.L. M.V.P. in 2004 when he had a batting average that was over .300, knocked in over 100 runners and hit more than 30 homeruns with the Angels.

Ever since 2011, he's been trying to get back to the majors. Last year, he was released by the Orioles because he refused to be sent down to the minor leagues.

Newsday also reported that Dontrelle Willis is also signing with the team after washing out of the majors after years with the Marlins and Tigers.
