13 Injured When Truck and Commuter Train Collide

Just before 2:30 pm PDT in Los Angeles a commuter train and a dump truck collided injuring 13 people. There were 190 people traveling on board the train when it collided with the dump truck.

Of the 190 people 12 on the train were injured and taken to the hospital. The driver of the truck was also injured in the collision. Four other passengers were treated for minor injuries at the scene. The driver of the truck is not in police custody.

According to the L.A Times the spokesman for the Metrolink rail line, Jeff Lustgarten made a statement saying the gates that would normally bar a car from crossing the tracks as a train approached were working fine. He said he doesn't know how the truck made its way onto the tracks.

"The gates were functioning, but why the truck was on the tracks at the time, I don't know," Lustgarten said.

There is an investigation into the train/truck collision but no further information is available at this time.
