Google Fiber Coming To Austin, Texas; Super-Fast Internet Speeds Will Allow Tech-Giant To Compete With Service Providers Comcast, Time Warner

Google Fiber will be brought to Austin, Texas. Austin will be the first city in the world to receive Google's super-fast internet service, 'Fiber'.

A press release for an event co-hosted by Google and the City of Austin said that city VIP's would be invited to an announcement of something that "will have a positive impact on Austinites and the future of the city."

Google Fiber delivers the Internet at 1000 Mb per second. "[Google Fiber] is 100 times faster than today's average internet, allowing you to get what you want instantaneously," according to a press release.

In addition, Google Fiber in-home packages will encompass television options. Packages will allegedly range from "Gigabit internet" at $70 per month, to "Gigabit Internet + TV at $120. The Internet + TV option will allow up to 8 simultaneous DVR recordings and provide a terabyte of cloud storage, and a Nexus 7 remote (an Android Tablet).

Google is scheduled to make an announcement on Tuesday Morning, reportedly about the Google Fiber.

However, that Google Fiber is coming to Austin is all but confirmed. Google Fiber's news site briefly posted a message stating, "Google Fiber's Next Stop: Austin, Texas." However, the message was quickly removed.

Austin-based telecom expert Stacey Higginbotham wrote, "Google is bringing its Google Fiber network to Austin. I've confirmed it with sources and the brief publication of a post in the middle of the night by Google should assuage anyone else's' doubts."

The fact that Google Fiber will arrive in Austin proves that the tech giant is serious about becoming a contender among Internet service providers. Google will be taking on Internet provider giants Time Warner and Comcast, but Google is confident that its superior speed and service will put it ahead of the other companies.

Blair Levin, who led the U.S. National Broadband Plan, said, "I don't think this should surprise anyone because Google's leadership has been saying that this is not just a science experiment. It's looking more and more like they want to make this a real business, and that should excite everyone."

Although Google didn't respond to inquiries, stating they don't comment on rumors and speculation, the City of Austin confirmed the arrival of Google Fiber in their city.

Reporters at KVUE said, "Multiple City of Austin sources confirm to KVUE that we will be next on the list" for Google Fiber.
